Familiarity is a form of blindness, the symptom of repeated observation. When our natural mode of perception is to view, repetition gives us the permission to stop paying attention. Some ephemeral swerve opens a gap in our daily routine shaking our sense of place and familiarity slips away. My work acts as an intermediary between awareness and recognition, it’s visual play suggests forms estranged from context. Being an observational painter then becomes about the visual state of looking rather than the re-presentation of an image.
