Vision is promiscuous while sight is frugal. In a culture so overwhelmed with visual information my paintings investigate what can and cant be contained by our beleaguered attention spans. My process finds forms that fall between representation and abstraction exposing the sensual disorganization of contemporary time. These are observational paintings made from compositions collected on daily walks through San Franciscos neighborhoods and then deranged with color, drawing and digital photography. The surfaces bear a heavy amount of addition and subtraction to find an awkward balance between thick and thin, matte and glossy, intensity and calm. All of which become allegories for what we can see versus what we do see.
